Dr. Sameen Siddiqi, World Health Organization Representative in Iran, visited Kerman University of Medical Sciences on 28th and 29th Nov 2016.

During his stay in Kerman, he visited various centers of excellence of Kerman University of Medical Sciences including Institute for Futures Studies, the KMU Think Tank, Behavioral Care Center and many other departments.

According to KMU Information Base, during Dr. Siddiqi’s visit of the Think Tank, the activities of this center regarding "the Health Roadmap to Iran 1404" were presented.

The "Positive Club", established for creating job opportunities for people living with HIV and those affected by the disease was also visited.

Dr. Siddiqi attended the meeting with the University's Board of Governors which was held in the chancellor’s office on 29 Nov 2016. Prof. Ali Akbar Haghdoost, the KMU Chancellor, in his opening remarks, mentioned that KMU is the first Iranian university to establish Vice-Chancellorship for social affairs. He also pointed out that National Treatment Proposal is being written by Kerman University of Medical Sciences, for the whole country.

Dr. Bagher Amirheidari, Chancellor’s Advisor and Director of International Relations highlighted the significance of cultural and historical background of Kerman Province and described that the KMU was founded 29 years ago. Almost 6000 students in different fields are currently studying at the university towards BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees. He also noted that Kerman is interested in implementing the programs towards "Kerman HIV/AIDS Friendly City (KHFC)" in line with the global approaches. Dr. Amirheidari further stressed the importance of research at KMU and reported the progress of research projects in Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, Comprehensive Service laboratory and National Animal Farm.

Prof. Majid Fasihi Harandi, the Vice- Chancellor for Education described the University's educational capacities and named the faculties.

Dr. Sameen Siddiqi appreciated the efforts of Ministry of Health and Medical Education for implementing the “Health Transformation Plan”. He considered the improvement of physical condition of the hospitals as another achievement of the Health Transformation Plan.

It must be noted that Dr. Sameen Siddiqi traveled to Kerman to investigate the health condition of Kerman Province and to visit the Permanent Secretariat of World Health Organization Collaborative Centers (WHOCCs) settled at Kerman University of Medical Sciences.
